My First Smoothie

I have always been into personal development. Even from a young age, I was striving to be the best person I could be. I always had my head in a book or endeavouring to master an instrument, being ‘average’ is not something I wanted for myself.
As I got older I bought so called ‘self-help’ books, my first was a book called ‘confident conversation’ and it helped me understand the fear behind a lot of social situations and how to break that fear down in your head and also helped me have the confidence to speak in public.
I then became a youth and life coach, as I wanted to pass on my knowledge to others and help them become the best version of themselves they could possibly be. My aim was to give them the tools to help themselves and others and so on and so on.
All of the training I have done so far has helped me to speak on stage to promote charity events and share my life story to help others. I have broken boards and walked on fire, things that I never thought I would do. Personal development training has helped me in so many ways I could never explain but it has made me a happier, more confident person, so I couldn’t recommend it enough.
My coaching time was always given for free as the people I coached were always from challenged backgrounds and not in a position to pay. This means I always had to have a job to pay the bills and keep a roof over my head. I was lucky enough to have a great job working for a writer, public speaker and life coach. As part of my job I was always encouraged to go to seminars and coaching events, so the job suited me perfectly.
On my birthday, my boss very kindly gifted me a ticket to an event that would totally revolutionise my life. It was a 4 day personal development course called UPW, hosted by the force of nature called Tony Robbins.
Amongst other things, this event teaches about breaking down barriers and habits. Humans are creatures of habit so we can do things that aren’t necessarily good for us just because we are used to a certain pattern of behaviour. We unconsciously do these things and unless we break the habit, would carry on doing this forever.
This event is where I did my first firewalk, I danced on stage in front of 10,000 people and broke wooden boards (a metaphor for breaking through barriers). It really was a great experience.
On the last day, it teaches you about nutrition. This day was a real breakthrough for me. I honestly did not realise where some of the food I eat came from and the effects eating some things had on my body. This is where the 10 day challenge came in.
The challenge was to cut bad things out of your diet and incorporate healthier things into your diet.
I am not going to lie, this was hard. Giving up caffeine and replacing it with lemon water was the hardest thing ever. Drinking substantial amounts of caffeine can create a physical addiction and when you give it up, you can go through withdrawal. Withdrawal can come in the form of headaches and mood swings.
Once I got through all of these symptoms, I felt so different and had a real sense of wellbeing and this helped me to press ahead with the challenge.
As part of the challenge, smoothies were used as a meal replacement, one meal per day, over the course of the 10 days. My favourite smoothies were the green smoothies, they revolutionised my life.
My favorite green smoothie recipe is below:
- 1 x baby gem lettuce
- 5 x generous slices of cucumber
- 10 x spinach leaves
- 1 x small banana
- 1 x avocado
- 2 x sticks of celery
- 1 x cup of water
- Half a lemon
You will need a good smoothie maker to blend this for more info click on this link.
This is a no hassle recipe. Just put all of the ingredients into the smoothie maker and blend.
I not only drank these smoothies during the 10 day challenge, I drink them to this day because the effects on my body were so profound.
My skin glowed and my hair was shinier and grows more quickly. My nails are stronger and my energy levels were off the scale. Green smoothies changed me in so many ways, my mood, memory and mental clarity.
If you need a boost and you feel a bit sluggish these smoothies can really help.
Not everyone is into personal development like me, but if you take one thing away from my story, let it be about green smoothies. Just a small change can make such a big difference in your life. Go on try one, you know you want to!
